First, please note, I know little, if anything about latin dance. I purchased one of the disks in this series as well as several other salsa videos featuring other teachers.
Perhaps it is just my ignorance, unfamiliarity with latin dance...but I honestly liked the video. The teacher puts his whole heart into sharing what he knows with others. His Spanglish is endearing and, for me, shows his passion in sharing his love of dance with others.
I think there are a great many good dancers out there who, like this teacher, have something really special to share with us.
Unfortunately, we never enjoy this information because these people lack the Hollywood sized budgets and fear the media edit and special effect(not content) critics.
So what happens, we get very few great productions, lots of well edited, highjly polished shiny disks full of nothing!
In Let's Dance Salsa I agree with other reviewers that the filming isn't superior level.
The lady is quite a bit taller than the man.
Physically they are not the Hollywood Style, perfectly proportioned, air brushed, plastic cardboard cutouts. They are 'real', three dimensional people, which encourages, lends hope to would be dancers, such as myself.
Their match invites short gents and tall ladies to get up and dance!
This box cover, unlike FAR too many other Dance Instruction videos, shows a picture of the ACTUAL teaching couple.

So Of the dance instruction dvds in my posession, this one is better than most others. I have four salsa videos and I find this one to be the best.
Maybe the other reviewers might post salsa instruction videos that they find acceptable so we Salsa newbies can be pointed in the right direction?
In terms of content on Let's dance Salsa: I liked the way the disk was broken up and segmented so you could go back and review moves that were harder.
I liked the way one skill was built upon another.
I liked the sheer volume of movements and combinations taught. The dvd lasted forever! Generous content is a HIGHLY unusual but very much esirable benefit.
I liked his teaching of fun and unusual movements like the dips.
His eggbeater combination cracked me up! I tried the man's part as well as the woman's and this one was spinsational. One should not try this one on a full stomach or after a full pitcher of margaritas!
So, my point: I have written a few reviews on amazon and made no secret of my opinions...I liked this teacher and would buy this one again if I had it to do over. I have taken a few beginning salsa classes with different teachers and saw no vast contradictions between their material and that presented by the Let's Dance Salsa teacher. In fact, if the sound, wardrobe, language fluency, and film quality were better, this would, in my opinion, deserve a 5 star rating. Content...he is a six when compared to my other salsa videos!
